WELCOME TO KIAMICHI COUNTRY!! - SOUTHEAST OKLA.

Pushmataha County, Oklahoma - One of the largest counties in Oklahoma with many lakes, streams and mountains yet has only 1 stoplight.  Does that give you any ideas for a getaway??  Come to K River Campground and find it all without the crowd.  Just 2 blocks off the highway and right on the river.  You can paddle our river all day without seeing other people.

Great place for family or group campouts or picnics - reunions, church outings, scouts, company outings, etc.  Reserve an entire section of the campground or a tent site just for you.  Call first if bringing a group.

Don't expect a lot of fancy campground stuff.  We offer a natural setting for camping and RV's that gets you pretty much back to nature.  Our only camp rule is that other campers do not have to hear loud noise (especially radios) from your direction.  Just come and have fun.  Relax in the shade overlooking the river.

Read below for things we do here at K River Campground

Canoeing - Kayaking

Canoeing is good year around and is best in spring and early summer and late fall.  July, August and September may have water levels too low for good canoeing.  After a rain fast moving water brings you right on down the river with a few nasty rapids along the way.  When water is low, the canoe trip is a gentle ride with a chance to just enjoy nature.  The Kiamichi is a big river, not a stream.  It is wide and deep in some places and narrow and shallow in other places.  The first float trip is 8 miles from upriver down to the campground.  It takes 3 to 5 hours.  Trips end back at the campground and leave you free to set your own pace.  Cost is $35 per canoe for the half day trips.  Price includes canoe, paddles, life jackets and delivery to launch site.  Put as many as you like in the canoe.  Good scenic canoeing with wildlife sightings along the way.  Quiet, serene, enjoyable and safe for all ages when water is low.  The river can get a little exciting when the water level is between 2000 and 6000 cfs.  Above this level is generally too dangerous for most.  Bring your camera and film the adventure.

Really fun and exciting on a moonlit night.  Longer trips and overnight trips are available.  Could canoe 3 or 4 days from up river if you like and camp along the way.  All day or overnight canoe rental is $50.  You are welcome to go without a guide.  Just don't take a wrong turn on the river.

We have recently added another take out which is 3.5 miles downriver to the mouth of  Ten Mile Creek.  It takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours.  It is a nice scenic trip for low water level or less adventurous paddlers.  $35

Call first if planning to canoe.  If water level is too low for canoe trips campers may use the canoes for minimal charge in the water near the campground.  We have a 1 mile stretch of deep water on the river that you may paddle around in and maybe catch a few fish.  Be sure to read about the river conditions at "River Flow and Tom's Commentary".

Camping - Tent and RV

Camping is fun all the time.  Real wilderness camping.  Lots of shade trees.  Right on top of the river bank.  Can also camp in more remote spots along the river away from the main campground.  Several RV sites next to river.  One mile to the country store, post office, beauty shop, storage and laundry.   Lots of  firewood on site.  Scavenge your own wood or burn our stacked wood for $10 per delivered stack.  Cook or just build a fire in the fire ring provided.  Several 30/50 amp RV hookups with sewer.  Other sites with electric and water.  Room for tents or whatever.  Cost is $12 for your tent and $20 for 30 amp RV's.  Two adults per camp fee.  Add $3 for each additional adult age 16 and over.  No charge for kids with their parents.  Camp fee covers all activities except canoeing, tubing and trail rides.  Campground is open year around.  If we are not around just pick an empty camp site and we will get with you later.  The caretaker is generally at the camp all the time.  Weekly and monthly rates too.  Camping supplies are available at the old store just one mile from camp.  Washers/dryers and ice available at the camp.  We have hookups for 50 RVs and unlimited tent camp sites.  All are pull throughs.

October 2006 we added 10 full hookup sites for Extended Stay RV's.  These are up the hill away from the campground area.  These currently rent for $200 per month and pay your own electric.  Large lots with some shade and more on the way.  Lots are 30 by 100 and extra parking spaces for vehicles.

We have 1 bath house for the women with 2 of everything.  1 bath house for the men with 2 of everything.  Both heated in the winter months.  Warm water showers.  Centrally located for convenience.

Two pavilions for covered cooking/eating or meetings.

There is a dump station for the RV's.  You may also store your RV here between camp outings.  $2 per day.  We can move your RV to the hookups when you come for camping so you will not have to bring a tow vehicle.

Fun Activities - all at our campground

Enjoy volleyball, horseshoes, canoeing, kayaks, basketball, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, riding truck tubes down the river, dive off the rocks, pan for gold (we do have gold in our river), bird watching for unique wood peckers or eagles, rock hunting, hunt arrowheads, look for Bigfoot, search for outlaw hidden treasure, collect empty mussel shells, catfish noodlin, play with the dogs, go site seeing, watch for swamp rabbits, catch a baby red ear turtle, cook over an open fire, star gazing, listen to night creatures, roast a few marshmallows, slap a few mosquitoes, moonlight canoeing, watch the fireflies, listen to tree frogs, coyotes, and hoot owls, drink any beverage you like, etc, etc, etc.

Lots of nice road ways and trails for riding your bicycle.  The dogs may remove some of your toes but it will be fun until then.  The hospital is only 8 miles.  Bring your ATV for riding around the camp to the bath house, swimming hole, etc. Speed limit is 5 mph.

Camper Cabins

We have camper cabins.  These cabins are set back in the shady area near the river.  Nice view of the river from the cabin deck.  Just a short walk to river or bath house.  Each cabin has 3 queen size beds.  1 bed downstairs and 2 on the loft.  The beds have air mattresses that are easy to keep clean.  You must bring your own sheets, blankets, sleeping bag, etc.  The cabins have lights, heat, air conditioning, table, chairs and deck.  No indoor plumbing but water just outside.  Bring a grill or cook over an open fire.  Cost is $50 per night for 2 adults.  Add $5 for each extra adult 16 and over.  A real bargain.  No charge for kids (does not include your husband).

We now have other larger cabins available that have bath, kitchen and satellite TV.  2 cabins have wheelchair ramps.

All the cabins have a deck, picnic table and fire ring.

Holiday weekends require minimum 3 night stay.

Check out all our cabins here>>>  Cabin page

 Fishing

Fishing is good all the time and they must be easy to catch if I can catch them.  Bait is available at the old store just one mile from camp.  The river is excellent for bass, catfish and bream.  Sand bass and crappie are plentiful in the spring.  You can fish off the bank or from a canoe.  We also have a well stocked fish pond for the kiddies.  Just one half mile up the road is Buck Creek which has nice rapids for fly fishing.  Spring and early summer is the best time for fly fishing.  Also have several large fishing lakes nearby.  Largemouth and Kentucky spotted bass fishing is really good when floating down the river.  Just cast a few lures while your wife does all the paddling.  If you are really good you can get her to clean the fish.  This is a warm water river and has all the varieties of warm water fish.  No trout.  The river is fished very little and is loaded with fish.  Most serious fishermen catch 20 bass in 3 hours while floating down to 10 mile.  Fishermen say the water is perfect for fishing.  It is fairly clear but not so much that the fish have no hiding places.  Come and catch some.  Set your chair right on the bank under a shade tree, throw in your line and take life easy.

We charge $1 per pound for the ones that get away.  Stops a lot of fish stories.

Local river fishing expert, Allen, is now providing guided fishing trips on our river.  Everything provided except food, drinks, and fishing license.  Not very expensive but will be very rewarding.  Allen knows his stuff.  Uses a flat bottom boat.

Get your fishing license online.  Click here.

Swimming

Nice swimming hole with a long gravel beach right at the campground area.  Good place for all ages and sizes.  Shady area to sit while kids swim.  Water is very clean and unpolluted and has a very comfortable feeling to it.  The water is clear when it hasn't rained recently.  No charge to use our truck tubes while swimming at the camp.  There is a deep swimming hole with rock diving when on the canoe trip down the river.  Private areas on river to swim if you like.  We have no giant squids, no sharks, no anacondas, no alligators and no sea monsters to interrupt a peaceful swim.  No guarantees concerning snakes, beaver, alligator gar, snapping turtles, leaches, crawdads, and curious male employees.

Our river is one of the cleanest in the U.S.  We have no factories or chicken houses and very little farming along the entire river.

Trail Rides

(Trail rides are a little iffy right now.  Ranch owners are sometimes not available to do the trail rides.)

Thomas Trail Rides is now using their ranch and horses for horseback trail rides.  They have the neatest and most beautiful scenic riding trail in the area.  The ride begins at their horse barn and tack room.  They match horse to riders according to size and ability.  Everyone mounts up and Hi Ho away we go!!  The trail leads you across a high ridge with a view for miles.  The mountains and trees are beautiful here.  From there you trot on down into the valley and across the Kiamichi River, through the trees and grass and rock formations.  The ride ends up back at the tack room.  A real outdoor adventure everyone should try at least once.

A guide accompanies each trail ride.  Be sure to bring your camera for some lasting memories.  Price is $30 each for the ride which is about 1 hour.  The first complaint of a sore rear (bring some liniment) will probably determine length of ride.  Sometimes they let the more adventurous ride around a little extra while back at  the tack room pasture area.  Some trail ride pictures

Tubing

We have discovered that lots of folks enjoy tubing down the river on truck tubes.  It has been lots of fun when the water is up.  We have a 3 mile stretch of river that starts at the camp and goes to Ten Mile Creek where we can get you out of the water.  The cost will be $10 per tuber with a $40 minimum per group which covers expense to pick you up down river.  The trip takes about 2 hours.  Just don't miss the take out landing or we may never see you again.  We provide the tubes.  Tubing is usually best in April, May and June.  Not good when water is low.  Too much work.

Bird Watching

We have a very large variety of birds.  Some with tropical colors like bright blue (not bluebirds or blue jays) maybe bunting and some very yellow, possibly goldfinch.  Also lots of varieties of woodpeckers, turkeys and even eagles.  It would be nice if some of you experts would come and identify the various species.  We also have an occasional Bigfoot sighting.  Bigfoot may be a bird as far as I know.

Day use fee

For people who do not plan to spend the night but want to fish, swim, picnic, etc.  $3 per person.   Fee covers all activities except camping, tubing, canoeing and trail rides.  Kids under 16 are free when with parents except for special event days.

Hiking trail

Old timers delight.  No hills to climb.  We use the old railroad bed to walk on.  No grass or weeds.  Lots of tree varieties and abundant wildlife.  Hopefully no hungry bears.  Soon to have a swinging bridge across Patterson Creek with some camping sites and hiking trails across the creek.

Gold Prospecting

The GPAA Gold Prospectors Assn Of America Chapter 21 and others have located flakes of pure gold in our river right at the campground.  The results were better than most places they have been.  Bring your gold pan and give it a try.  These guys have meetings at our camp several times a year.  They love to show greenhorns how to find gold so come and try it.  Watch the Event Calendar for schedule.  We have gold panning kits for sale.  Have a look at these pictures made right at the camp.  Gold Prospecting

Pets are welcome

Keep any unsociable dogs on a short leash and under control at all times.  Don't let children near them.

We presently have 8 or more medium size dogs which we need to keep the varmints away from the campsites.  All dogs are current on shots.  Those other creatures you see are not our pets but are probably some of the locals that look like mountain goats.   Bring your pets but don't let them bite the attendant or he may choose to increase your camping fee.  Be responsible for your pet.  Keep them on a leash and in your control.  Keep your husband on a leash also if you think it is necessary.  You may want to keep him away from the topless swimming area.  It is required that you feed our dogs some steak scraps.

FREE WIRELESS INTERNET

We have installed a Wildblue Satellite link to the internet along with a 108Mbs wireless router so anyone at the camp can access the internet with their laptop.  It's not as fast as you are used to but its free and sometimes it is actually working.  It doesn't work everywhere on the campground since the area is so big but you can always go to the Hot Air Pavilion and connect your laptop to the internet.

WE'LL SEE YOU SOON - Don't waste a lot of time getting here.
